How far is the walk to the beach and boardwalk from the Cottage at Salt Water Pines?
Beach access is about 4 blocks and a 10 minute walk on flat terrain (about 0.4 mile). You will cross Coastal Highway using a well-marked crosswalk at its intersection with Jefferson Bridge Road. Downtown Bethany by the totem pole is a 15 minute walk or a 5 minute drive. I also offer free shuttle service for my guests to and from the beach. Ask for details.
Walking/biking directions to Beach:
Walk to end of street and turn right on Jefferson Bridge Rd. Cross Rt. 1 (Coastal Hwy) and go to the stop sign at Rd 51. Turn left and make your first right on Cedarwood Ln. Should take less than 10 minutes depending on your walking speed. I also offer FREE shuttle service to and from if you want to beach at the boardwalk.
Does the heated pool work in cold weather?
No. The pool is heated by a heat pump that works best in warmer weather. We keep it operating as long as it can provide comfortable swimming temperatures, but is it not very efficient in colder weather. For that reason, the pool is usually available between April and October dependent upon outside temps. We cover it for Winter months.
Also, the pool is 10′ x 20′. It is 52″ deep.
Are beach towels provided or will we need to bring our own?
Towels for the beach/pool are provided for use by our guests during their stay.
Are sheets provided?
Yes, we provide sheets and towels at no extra charge. (If you’d like to bring your own sheets, there are 2 queen beds, 1 full bed, 1 queen sofa bed, and 1 full size futon.)
How many people can the Cottage host?
The Cottage at Salt Water Pines has 3 regular bedrooms (queen bed, queen bed, and double bed) and the ability to use the family room as a fourth, private bedroom (futon sofa converts to a double bed; there are privacy blinds on both sides of the French doors from the living room; solid door to the main kitchen). There is also a pull-out, queen sleeper sofa in the living room; the living room has openings/views to the dining room and kitchen, with a roll-down privacy blind in the bay window. In total, the Cottage can comfortably sleep up to 10 people.
Do you have room for more than 10 people?
If you need room for more than 10 people, contact us! In the Spring of 2025, Salt Water Pines will have a brand new, much larger rental home becoming available right next door to the Cottage. We also have other owners on our street with whom we work to accommodate larger parties. That way everyone can stay on the same street!
Is the Cottage wheelchair accessible?
Yes! There is a wheelchair ramp to a 36″ wide door into the family room directly from the gravel parking pad. Once inside the house, there is also a small ramp from the family room to the main house via the kitchen.
Why is single level living better?
The Cottage is a single level Ranch-style house with just one step down from the living room to the family room (or a small ramp from the kitchen to the family room). There are only 3-1/2 steps to the living room entrance or a ramp to the family room.
This layout is BEST for seniors and those with limited mobility.
Raised, multi-level rental homes were originally built to provide views of the ocean to homes located along the beach. Built elsewhere, the numerous steps are unnecessary and can be a nightmare for the elderly, disabled, and those with mobility issues. Imagine having to climb up and down 15 steps just to get to the first floor of a raised rental every time you enter and leave a home, use the pool, grab snacks, etc. Then you might have another flight of steps to the bedrooms!
How many bikes, kayaks, and paddleboards are available to use?
As of Fall 2024, we have 4 Kayaks, 3 paddleboards, and 16 bikes of all sizes and styles available for use by guests during your stay. There are also a few helmets, but I’d recommend bringing your own helmets and life jackets as needed. I offer FREE local drop-off and pickup of kayakers for my guests during their stay.
When are check-in and check-out times?
Checkin time is 3:00pm on the date of arrival. Check-out time is 10:00 am on the day of your departure as that is the time which the housekeeper arrives. There may be flexibility depending upon the rental schedule, so if you have any issues with late arrivals or departures, just contact me. I want your stay to be as stress-free as possible and will do whatever I can to accommodate you. I live right around the corner, so I’m available at a moment’s notice most times. If there is anything you need or any way I can make your stay more comfortable, or if you have any questions, please let me know!
How many cars will fit in the parking pad?
The gravel parking pad is 40′ x 40′. With most standard sized vehicles, you should be able to fit 8 cars in 2 rows of 4.
Do all bedrooms have TVs?
